We are seeking a smart, self-directed Senior Applied Scientist to help us build the next generation of digital marketing technology. As part of our team, you will develop and apply rigorous mathematical and statistical models to semi-structured web data, formulate and test hypotheses, and deliver web analytics and other data-derived services to be used by millions of digital marketers, web publishers, and investors worldwide.

We have been gathering and analyzing data from online sources for over 20 years, with terabytes of archived crawl data, a data-contributing panel of millions of users in countries around the world, and millions of unique website visitors each month. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop novel modeling techniques for pattern recognition, prediction, classification, and other complex data science problems

Write high quality code and contribute to our codebase of scientific applications using relevant technologies

Build well-iterated models or analyses which reduce noise and maximize performance and accuracy

Contribute to strategic planning and project management for a variety of technical initiatives

Effectively communicate with customers, senior management, and colleagues with diverse roles and technical backgrounds

Document methodologies and increase our institutional knowledge based on experimental results and operationalized solutions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering, and 7+ years of related work experience

Expertise with a broad suite of machine learning techniques, natural language processing, and statistics

Proficiency with a major programming language appropriate for data science such as Python, Scala, or C++

A keen scientific mind with a proven ability to think critically and invent

Experience with statistical and mathematical libraries and software

Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong discipline for documenting methodologies and applications

Ability to develop prototypes

A track record of thought leadership & contributions that have advanced the field

Demonstrates a basic understanding of Alexa, its products, and its target customer

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Expertise in artificial intelligence techniques and methodologies

Experience with modern methods for parallelized processing of large, distributed datasets (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Map-reduce)

Experience working effectively with software engineering teams, product managers, and designers

Experience working with web data (corpus of HTML documents, browse clickstreams, server logs)

Proficiency with relational databases, Linux, and AWS solutions

As part of our team, you will design and develop robust, scalable, cloud-based applications for collecting and analyzing large data sets and create new web analytics and other data-derived services to be used by millions of digital marketers, web publishers, and researchers worldwide.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and develop robust and secure distributed processing solutions in our cloud (AWS) environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Sharp as a tack, with strong knowledge of advanced algorithms, data structures, and software engineering best practices

Expert knowledge of at least one compiled language such as C/C++ or Scala and a scripting language such as Python

Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or Mathematics, and 7+ years of related work experience

Experience with technologies such as Spark and Elastic Map Reduce

Proficiency with relational databases and Unix

Basic understanding of Alexa, our products, and our target customer

Demonstrates a basic understanding of Alexa, its products, and its target customer

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Machine learning and statistical proficiency

Experience configuring and optimizing GPU-enabled hardware
